Thunderbolts! you should be reading this!

Just time for a quick one today. Thunderbols...you should be reading it! okay okay, i guess you need a little more.
Well...Thunderbolts...I guess it's the villan version of New Avengers...but within the new issue, #133 you actually find out they are not all your typical bad guys! which is cool! I finished re-reading the last two issues #132 and #133 and was wondering to myself why is this book so good? and then I realized/remembered that it's now being written by Andy Diggle the same man behind one of my favorite DC Vertigo books, the Losers!

Diggle has a great way of writing "black-ops" type stories and Losers was one of the best (now avaliable in TPBs). This works very will with the current version of the Thunderbolts. Not only is the book served up with great action and team dynamic but the characters are really developing well! This new issue we learn of undercover operatives within this supposed team of villians...and then we also learn some of the villans aren't fully onboard with Norman Osborn...which is totally cool (cause it's kinda hard to follow totally bad guys)!

anyway! if your not reading it...pick it up! You can start with issue #132 or get the latest Deadpool/Thunderbolts TPB...and while your at it pick up The Losers Vol 1, you won't regret it!

Last Night on Earth board game!

You a fan of horror movies? well have we got the board game for you! Last Night on Earth from Flying Frog.

While it may look complicated it's actually fairly simple. You play as the humans or zombies (you'll need at least one player for each side) though various scenarios. While it looks like alot of components to the game the mechanics are simple enough that you can get anybody to play. The humans roll dice to move, they can search to find cards that will be helpful, and then you'll roll dice to fight zombies. Zombie player spawns zombies, can move each of them one space, and also can use cards to do more interesting stuff.

Here's a few examples of stuff that can happen:
- Scenarios: hold out in the manor and prevent 9 zombies from entering, you must survive for 17 hours (17 turns)
- Chainsaws!! one of the strongest weapons in the game, you get to roll extra dice and zombies will die instantly from it
- Lights out! Zombies have manged to cut the power in one of the buildings, this will limit your movement, unless you had the foresight to pick up a lighter or a torch
- Dynamite!! wanna blow up a bunch of zombies gathering together? hit them with the dynamite...but you'd better have a lighter to light the fuse!

All the art and attitude for the game is done in a cool retro horror flick style.

If your looking for something fun this summer defintly check out Last Night on Earth!

Bagley on JLA!!

Right off his work on Trinity and his upcoming Batman run, comes his next stop...JLA!

Bagley will be the new ongoing artist on JLA beginning October.

Sleeper new printing!

Hey guys, Sleeper is back and in a new TPB printing! Previously available in 5 tpbs, it will now be in only 2.

volume 1 just shipped this week and it contains the first 12 issues of this great series brought to you by the same team behind Incognito (which is an super hot series right now) and Criminal.

For those of you not familiar with the series it takes place in the wildstorm universe, so you will get references to I.O, Wildcats, Authority and such, but you need not be familiar with the universe to enjoy this (as they are only referenced). You follow Holden Carver as he embarks on a most dangerous assignment. He's gone undercover to infiltrate a secret organization of super villains...but his one and only contact in the agency has fallen into a coma leaving Holden trapped living a day at a time in this deadly environment.

The series is an excellent read epically if you like Ed Brubakers current Incognito series, highly recommended!

TPBs you probably never read...starting with the letter "B"

Hey all, just dropping a line here on some great series that you probably haven't read...and if you have then you get a gold star cause these are excellent reads that i wouldn't consider on the mainstream radar.

First up is....drum rolllllll...Blue Beetle!! yes that's right folks...the NEW Blue Beetle!!

Now this series follows the new blue beetle, teenager Jaime Reyes, as he receives the blue beetle scarab. This armor seems to be both a blessing and a curse for our young Jaime who's just trying to get by in life. It's got amazing art (including Cully Hamner) and the perfect blend of comedy and action. This book was very underrated and the ongoing series was recently put to rest...but you can find the series collected in 5 wonderful TPBs...and for more action you can see him in the recent Booster Gold #21 where he gets a second feature story...which leads me into the next TPB you probably haven't read starting with the letter "B"...

BOOSTER GOLD!

If you haven't been following the ongoing time traveling adventures of Booster Gold...well your missing out on some great fun! What's Booster's deal after the events of DC's massive 52 series? We'll he's jumping though time fixing the DC Universe...and guess what the twist is...(watch out slight SPOILER)...he's playing the fool and getting NO credit for it!! Yeah, that's the deal he's made...he gets to be a hero but get's absolutely no credit for it...and on top of that he's gotta play the fool so nobodies the wiser! If that doesn't mean your a true hero then i don't know what does! Along with Blue Beetle the book has great humor as you follow Booster "quantum leaping" though events in the DCU. Booster gold is available in 3 TPBs thus far, and his ongoing series is still rocking it!

So that concludes this edition of TPBs you probably haven't read. If your interested in any of the above TPBs be sure to let Heroes World staff know so we can have copies ready for your next road trip, plane trip, BDAy gift...or even just a lazy Saturday afternoon!

Reborn Revealed! Return of Captain America!

Yep, that's right folks Marvel has FINALLY revealed what exactly "Reborn" is about. It is in fact the return of Cap!

Be sure to pick up issue #600 out this week as it is the prelude to the Reborn series that will hit July 1st!

Superman For Tomorrow Absolute Edition

Hey all! Got a chance to re-read one of my old favorites this past weekend...and oh what a treat it was because it is now available in absolute format! What does that mean? well it's an oversized deluxe hardcover printed on super nice paper.

Yes i'm talking about Superman For Tomorrow. Jim Lee's follow up to the fantastic Batman Hush but this time we've got Brian Azzarello (100 BULLETS) writing a Superman story your not quite used to. Firstly the reproduction of the art is truly amazing, every page is big and bright, the colours really shine here, i'd have to say i even like it better than my copy of HUSH. Superman is a much brighter character so the blues, reds and yellows really pop in this format as opposed to Batman's darker tone.

This is not your typical supes story, it's got the man of steel questioning what he's doing. After millions of people have simply vanished from the face of the earth (including Lois!) he seeks answers to whether what he's doing is right or wrong which in most stories he usually is definitively "good". Ideas like "what if Superman just stops a war" are explored here...like what if he just flies in there and takes everybody's guns and stops it?!?! What happens after that...also featured are great appearances by other members of the league, like Aquaman, Batman, and good role for Wonder Woman (they even throw down!).

So if you haven't read it for a while, or you haven't even read it then definitely pick this one up. you won't be disappointed.

Superman for Tomorrow Absolute is $84.99 and is also available in Trade paper back as well.

Board game - Power Grid!

Here we go with another great game from Z-man games! Power Grid! Considered the 3rd best game EVER according to boardgamegeek.com

This is yet another venture into the modern board game. The premise is simple, you must supply the most cities with power...think monopoly but now your a power mogul instead of real estate. What makes power grid cool is it's application to being pretty realistic. Players purchase power plants via auction, so whoever is willing to pay the most will win the bids but by buying power plants you reveal newer more efficient power plants, so you must constantly strive to be efficient. You then must purchase raw materials (represented by various coloured blocks) to create power for these plants and as materials become more in demand the prices grow!

The brown wooden block represents Coal, and in this example this power plant can power 4 houses by burning only 1 coal!

While it may look complicated it is actually fairly simple. You can play with 2-6 players and the average game is about 2 hours. I highly recommend this game!

Batman: Streets of Gotham #1

So the Batman Reborn stuff is blazing hot right now! Batman and Robin #1 has sold out and gone to second print (don't worry we still have 1st prints!) and i'm sure Batman and Red Robin are next! This coming Wednesday we'll have yet another title, and this time it's another #1. Did you wonder where previous Detective Comics team went? Paul Dini (Batman Animated) and Dustin Nguyen(Detective Comics)? well you can find them here in Streets of Gotham #1 out this week!

Streets of Gotham will be a bit different than the other titles, while it will feature Batman as a main character it's toted that it will be more street level, so we'll see alot of different narratives from other characters like Commish Gordon, or even villians or any number of supporting characters...very much like the Gotham Knights series what we all miss! So it's a good time to be a Batman fan cause we're getting alot of great reads lately so be sure not to miss out on this one.
