Incan Gold!!!

Welcome the newest Heroes World board game staple...Incan Gold!!! This is quite possibly one of the simplest games to play and packs a mean fun factor, and it gets even crazier when you get up to 8 players! The concept is simple...you are adventures, Indiana Jones style! You enter the temple to search for loot, and you only have two options on your turn: continue searching the temple or head back to camp with whatever loot you've found. During each round (there are 5 rounds) you will flip a card in the deck, after each card is flipped you divide up all the treasure, if the card is a trap you get nothing...turn over two of the same trap and you loose all your loot! Only the brave will venture deep into the temple and get the most loot, but are you smart enough to stop before losing everything?!?! How far will you push your luck? and if your the last adventurer in the temple you'll get all the loot instead of sharing!

This is a great game that anyone can play! Each game only takes about 15-30 min and it's all for the very affordable price of $24.99!!

Last Night on Earth board game!

You a fan of horror movies? well have we got the board game for you! Last Night on Earth from Flying Frog.

While it may look complicated it's actually fairly simple. You play as the humans or zombies (you'll need at least one player for each side) though various scenarios. While it looks like alot of components to the game the mechanics are simple enough that you can get anybody to play. The humans roll dice to move, they can search to find cards that will be helpful, and then you'll roll dice to fight zombies. Zombie player spawns zombies, can move each of them one space, and also can use cards to do more interesting stuff.

Here's a few examples of stuff that can happen:
- Scenarios: hold out in the manor and prevent 9 zombies from entering, you must survive for 17 hours (17 turns)
- Chainsaws!! one of the strongest weapons in the game, you get to roll extra dice and zombies will die instantly from it
- Lights out! Zombies have manged to cut the power in one of the buildings, this will limit your movement, unless you had the foresight to pick up a lighter or a torch
- Dynamite!! wanna blow up a bunch of zombies gathering together? hit them with the dynamite...but you'd better have a lighter to light the fuse!

All the art and attitude for the game is done in a cool retro horror flick style.

If your looking for something fun this summer defintly check out Last Night on Earth!

Board game - Power Grid!

Here we go with another great game from Z-man games! Power Grid! Considered the 3rd best game EVER according to boardgamegeek.com

This is yet another venture into the modern board game. The premise is simple, you must supply the most cities with power...think monopoly but now your a power mogul instead of real estate. What makes power grid cool is it's application to being pretty realistic. Players purchase power plants via auction, so whoever is willing to pay the most will win the bids but by buying power plants you reveal newer more efficient power plants, so you must constantly strive to be efficient. You then must purchase raw materials (represented by various coloured blocks) to create power for these plants and as materials become more in demand the prices grow!

The brown wooden block represents Coal, and in this example this power plant can power 4 houses by burning only 1 coal!

While it may look complicated it is actually fairly simple. You can play with 2-6 players and the average game is about 2 hours. I highly recommend this game!

Wasabi!

Hey all, didn't get a chance to get in a game of Android, so i'll save that review for another time...so i thought i'd talk about a fun and easy game we just got back instock called Wasabi!!

As you can guess it's a sushi themed game! The concept is fairly simple that allows almost anyone to get in on the fun. You play chefs trying to complete their quota of sushi recepies, to do this you simply lay down tiles that are drawn from the pantry and arrange them to create your dishes...complete the recipes with style and receive bonus points or special tactics that allow you to rearrange and disrupt your opponents carefully placed tiles. You may not have the time to setup these stylish moves so it's a balance between technique and speed! The game ends when the board is full and points are totaled up!

Another great game from Z-man Games! also see Pandemic,

Agricola and Power Grid!

The return of the Boardgame!

Going to mix it up a little here guys...normally we do comic related news, but since Thursday is our board game day, i'll talk a little bit about modern board games! what does modern mean? well just that the game was created after the 1980's. You'll notice we've been carry alot of these newer games lately...and well... it's cause their fun as all hell! You can only take so much of blowing each other up in Gears of War or call of duty...or going out to movies or dinner or whatever...that you'll find getting together a group of friends or family for a nice board game to be quite an experience...and please don't bust out that tired old copy of monopoly!

Here's a few quick blurbs on some great modern games:

Zooloretto - a great family game for all ages...don't be fooled by the cute panda you will still have a blast with this game despite it being kid friendly. You play a zoo keeper that is trying to fill your zoo up with groups of animals...and you can't just throw them all together in one pen!! stacks of tiles that represent each animal are drawn randomly and placed on to trucks by players, so then each player much take a truck and hope they have enough room to separate and hold all the animals! no room? means they sit in your barn and you'll lose points! and watch out for male and female animals cause they will produce a little baby, so you'd better have room!

Pandemic - a purely cooperative game...yes you and other players work together to cure 5 outbreaks! You'll play doctors that can work together...but the only way to trade resources is to meet in the same city. The different out breaks are represented by wooden cubes...and if too many are within one city it will spread to each adjacent city! Can you and your friends save the world!?!?

Battlestar Galactica - perhaps THE best licensed game I've ever played! The game is so true to the TV show that you'll be reliving your favorite episodes! You play the crew of the BSG trying to keep the ship together as you travel to your preset destination...but wait there are 1 or 2 possible cylons among your crew secretly sabotaging your efforts! can you discover who they are before it's too late? or will they simply reveal themselves to become more powerful and take down Galactica!!!??

That's just a little taste for now! but if your interested I've played all these games and can discuss them with you further or even run you a demo...or talk to you about many other great games!!

Next week Thursday I'll talk about another game! Android! ever wonder what it would be like to play Bladerunner as a board game?!?
